Introduction: While complication rate of knee prosthesis is strongly associated with their particle wear, no attention has been paid on the storage method and time up to now. Material and Methods: We therefore collected bovine serum after 500.000 cycles in the knee joint simulator and evaluated particle characteristics for a period of one year at different storage methods. Results: Our study showed that the storage time of the test serum has significant influence on the characteristics of the particle wear, while storage method does not influence particle characteristics. Conclusion: The evaluation time of the particle serum should be standardized to ensure comparability of future studies.
